“Friends are the family you choose.” ~ Jess C. Scott

Bill & Dana-Susan Crews are former competitive swimmers. Having swam as youth and adult masters, they retired from competitive swimming in 1997, but continued to coach kids and adults in the Dallas area and then the Houston area.

Bill began coaching swimmers in 1993 for the Splash Swim Team in Grand Prairie, Texas. His swimmers won state championships every year. After they married in 1996, Bill and Dana-Susan began coaching together. After they started a family, they continued coaching, but retired from competing themselves (temporarily). Their children, Morgan and Dylan, have both swam competitively.

Shortly after moving to the Houston area (The Woodlands), Bill and Dana-Susan began competing in triathlons (the kids started soon after). They enjoy every distance from the sprint to the Ironman. They both became Ironmen on April 13, 2008 in Tempe, Arizona. They also enjoy running marathons. Bill is a Brooks sponsored marathoner/triathlete and his personal record for the marathon was a 3:23 at St. George, Utah. Dana-Susan is a Boston qualifier who ran her first Boston Marathon in 2006. They also have participated in open water swimming, long distance cycling events and more.

As much as they enjoy their own athletic goals, they enjoy helping others achieve their goals more. They began coaching triathlon and marathon in 2006 for Team In Training, Texas Gulf Coast Chapter. After receiving their USAT coaching certification in New Orleans, they started coaching youth and adults.

HF Coaching began as a way to encourage their friends to start running. They gathered a group of moms and dads and kids and started “Family Track Night” and got the group to register for the very first San Antonio Rock n Roll Marathon. They nicknamed the large group “Happy Feet” which later became HF Coaching. All proceeds from coaching runners and triathletes are donated to cancer research at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Dana-Susan opened a 501c3 organization called Remission Run, Inc. and together with Bill and the kids, has raised over $300,000 for Remission Run, MD Anderson, The Lymphoma Research Foundation, and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
